In this page you will find different kinds of belts, from "v" belts, serpentine belts, accessory belts like: alternator belt, power steering pump belt, AC compressor belt, water pump belt, air pump belt and more. From brands like: Gates,DAYCO, Bando,Goodyear Gatorback, Motorcraft, AC Delco, Napa, Duralast, and more.

Belts place a huge role in modern vehicles, in the past, belts were only used to drive the accessories mounted on the outside of the engine, like alternator, water pump, power steering, AC compressor etc. those older belt designs were "v" belts, as time went by, the "v" belt design was changed to a newer design , the serpentine belt, allowing all the accesories to be driven by one serpentine belt instead of many v-belts, replacing the serpentine belt is a lot faster than replacing a v-belt, and the main reason is that the tension on a serpentine belt is controlled by the belt tensioner, each make and model has a belt tensioner with the correct amount of tension on the serpentine belt, avoiding too much tension on the belt, that eventually would lead to bearing frailure.

The biggest change in the use of belts came when instead of using a chain to drive the camshaft inside the engine, it was replaced with a timing belt, most modern engines have this new design, and in most cases the timing belt drives not only the camshaft or camshafts depending on the engine design, but it also drives the water pump, oil pump and balance shaft. the tension on the timing belt is very important, each make and model has a different tension depending on the size of the engine and the amount of accessories driven by the timing belt, too much tension will destroy the bearings on the timing belt tensioner, too little tension will create enough slack causing the timing belt to jump, causing severe engine damage due to valve to piston contact. It is highly recomended to replace the timing belt at the recomended intervals, it is usually between 60,000 and 90,000 miles depending on make and model. It is recomended to replace not only the timing belt, but the timing belt tensioner (s), and idler (s) at the same time, all of these items can be purchased together as a "timing belt kit" available at your local auto parts store. Gates is the leading manufacturer on these timing belt kits.
