Nothing adds more personality to a vehicle than a set of custom wheels, most vehicle manufacturers in order to keep production costs down offer either steel wheels with hub caps or a low quality small diameter aluminum wheel.
Most of us want our vehicles to reflect our personality, and custom wheel manufacturers understand this concept very well, they know that there are not two individuals alike, for this reason there shouldn't be two vehicles alike, you can add a set of chrome rims, polished aluminum wheels, painted steel or aluminum wheels, with so many design options to choose from, from brands like: American Racing,VOXX,Foose,Lexani,Centerline,Boss,Ultra,Eagle,BMW,Cragar,MOMO,Enkei among others.
Choosing the correct wheel starts by choosing the design, and that is the most important aspect from the personality perspective, but you must remember that suspension geometry is designed primarily around the wheel and tire diameter, most customers choose a wheel larger than the OEM because larger wheels look better, for example; a person may replace the OEM 15" steel wheels with a set of 18" aftermarket custom wheels, or a person may replace a set of OEM 16" wheels with an aftermarket 20" wheels, when doing this, you must remember that the tire size will have to be of a lower profile, the ideal would be to keep the overall diameter the same, by adding larger wheels and replacing the tires with a 40 or 50 series instead of 60 or 70 series.
Another aspect that needs to be considered when replacing OEM wheels with aftermarket custom wheels is the offset and width of the new wheel, if you want to make things easy for you, you can keep the original offset and width increasing only the diameter of the new wheel, but the truth is, most customers will be happier with a wider wheel/tire combination, and this is where things can get complicated, if you don't understand what positive and negative offset is, you may want to visit your local tire dealer and ask a representative what is the maximum offset you can use in an aftermarket set of wheels that fit your car or truck.
